Welcome to our Guesthouses

Our guesthouses are situated on the edge of Wakkerstroom overlooking a vast wetland and the surrounding mountains. They are spacious and have that cottagy feeling. We are able to cater for small or large groups.

Wakkerstroom developed from a sleepy village to a popular tourist destination over the last 20 years due to the unique birding habitats that it encompasses (wetlands, grasslands and forests).

Birding is not the only attraction to Wakkerstroom though. The town and surrounding areas are inundated with history. There are a number of restaurants, pubs and shops to visit as well as plenty of local artists. There is no shortage of outdoor adventures either. These range from horse-riding to mountain-biking (see activities).

All in all, being only 3 hours from JHB or Pretoria, Wakkerstroom is a fantastic place to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the fresh country air.

Want to know more about our Lifer Weekends?

Lifer weekends are something new and exciting for birders as everything is planned for you to maximize your bird-watching time.

By going directly to the right areas and with the help of the local bird guides, we aim to see as many of the Wakkerstroom specials as possible.

Birding in Wakkerstroom

Wakkerstroom is one of South Africa's premier birding destinations. The area is blessed with three major bird habitat types - wetlands, grasslands and forests and this, together with a wide altitudinal range increases the birding opportunities with relatively little effort required from the birders themselves.
